Updates to OECD Test Guideline Work Plan

In July, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) added several projects under development to its test guideline work plan. These ongoing projects include developing and revising test guidelines (TGs), and developing guidance documents (GDs) and detailed review papers (DRPs). Some updates relevant to non-animal testing include:

  • Endocrine Disruption
    • Project 4.195: Update to GD 150 on standardised TGs for evaluating chemicals for endocrine disruption to include validated TGs, projects on the test guidelines work plan, and methods advanced for validation.
  • Genotoxicity
    • Project 4.190: Development of a TG for the in vitro alkaline comet assay and the enzyme-linked comet assay.
    • Project 4.191: Development of a TG on the ToxTracker assay: a mouse embryonic stem cell-based reporter assay for mechanistic carcinogenicity hazard screening.
    • Project 4.196: Development of a TG for the Bhas 42 cell transformation assay based on GD 231 on the In Vitro Bhas 42 Cell Transformation Assay. The project will start with a comprehensive literature review as a first step before TG development.
  • Skin Sensitisation
    • Project 4.185: Inclusion of two DAs using the reconstructed human epidermis-based testing strategy in TG 497 on DAs for skin sensitisation.
  • Toxicokinetics
    • Project 4.188: Development of a DRP for in vitro toxicokinetics.
    • Project 4.189: Development of two TGs for measuring human hepatic clearance and plasma protein binding using in vitro methods and integration of the methods in a DA for toxicokinetic characterisation.
