ShareThis month, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) added several projects under development to its Test Guidelines Work Plan. These ongoing projects include developing and revising test guidelines (TGs), and developing guidance documents (GDs) and detailed review papers (DRPs). Updates relevant to non-animal testing include:
- Bioaccumulation
- Project 3.23: Revision of OECD GD 280 on the Determination of In Vitro Intrinsic Clearance using Cryopreserved Hepatocytes (RT-HEP) or Liver S9 Subcellular Fractions (RT-S9) From Rainbow Trout and Extrapolation to In Vivo Intrinsic Clearance.
- Eye irritation
- Project 4.197: Revision of OECD TG 492B on the Reconstructed Human Cornea-like Epithelium (RHCE) Test Method for Eye Hazard Identification to include the EpiOcular time-to-toxicity test as a “me-too” method for hazard identification and labelling of eye-irritating chemicals.
- Respiratory toxicity
- Project 4.199: Development of a TG to evaluate point-of-contact respiratory tissue irritation after direct liquid chemical application to reconstructed human respiratory epithelium (RHRE) in vitro.
- Nephrotoxicity
- Project 4.200: Development of a DRP on in vitro renal cytotoxicity assays.
- Endocrine disruption
- Project 4.202: Development of a TG on a human Mineralocorticoid Receptor Transactivation Assay (MRTA).
- General Project 4.198: Addition of a reporting checklist to OECD GD 286 on Good In Vitro Methods Practices (GIVIMP) to improve the reporting of the addition of biotransformation systems to in vitro cell culture methods.
