Implementation of alternatives to the standard animal safety test for pertussis vaccines will be discussed at a satellite meeting of the 9th World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences in August. The “Workshop on Alternatives to the HIST for Acellular Pertussis Vaccines: Progress and Challenges in the Replacement of HIST” will provide a forum for discussing the implementation of in vitro assays as replacements for the murine histamine sensitization test (HIST) for acellular pertussis vaccines based on the consistency approach. Participants will also review the necessary framework for regulatory acceptance of a harmonized approach that utilizes such in vitro assays. The meeting is on August 24 in Prague, Czech Republic. It is free and open to the public; you do not have to be registered for World Congress to attend the satellite meeting. Because of space limitations, preregistration is strongly recommended.
