EURL ECVAM Recommends Ending Use of Animals in Antibody Production

The European Union Reference Laboratory for alternatives to animal testing (EURL ECVAM) has released its recommendation to end the use of animals in antibody production. A report released with the recommendation cites the scientific robustness and growing availability of non-animal derived antibodies and the activities that can be taken to promote the generation and use of non-animal-derived antibodies. It follows a December 2018 EURL ECVAM Scientific Advisory Committee meeting that explored the scientific validity of replacing animal-derived antibodies with animal-free technologies.
